Continually experimenting with new ideas and techniques — Reconstructing, Developing, Modernising.
It was my birthday recently, and I had a thoroughly enjoyable time with my family. In the latest of a series of surprises I have experienced was the amazing helpfulness and level of service from Bill Bruford’s web master in helping my wife out with an online order. It’s always a pleasure to deal with small organisations where the people seem to care about the customers.
Another surprise I had recently was being caught by Perl’s context handling. After using a lot of Ruby I can appreciate people’s frustration and confusion when dealing with Perl for the first time. Perl’s use of context is a useful feature which can become like second nature when you use Perl day in and day out, when you are not aware of it then it can be quite surprising and perplexing.
