For Absent Friends

After a whistle-stop trip to see my mother and grandmother I was reminded of the time when my father and grandfather were there too when “For Absent Friends” popped up on my iPhone.

Looking back at days of four instead of two
Years seem so few
Heads bent in prayer
For friends not there

This is particularly interesting to me as I become aware of having, most likely, more past than future.

Should I change how I live? Will I be remembered or forgotten? Do any of these questions matter? I suspect there are plenty of answers in the philosophical texts upstairs, for now I’ll trust my gut to inform me – it seems to have done a pretty good job so far…

I do wonder if the people who named the Super 8 motel chain knew what “suppurate” means, and if there’s any regional accent where they sound close enough for confusion?

Now I have a few weeks to get through before it’s off to Blighty for a week; hopefully the weeks will fly by.
